Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering
University of Nottingham
Nick’s research is in the field of Structural Composite Materials, particularly in the sectors of Automotive and Aerospace Engineering. His analytic work is based on predictive modelling of structural properties of discontinuous and textile composite components using the finite element method at micro-, meso- and macro levels of scale. The work is directed at static, fatigue and impact load cases and is based on implicit and explicit formulations.
His experimental research studies are based on the development of processing techniques for affordable carbon composite materials using directed fibre preforming technologies, with techniques using both virgin and recycled carbon fibres in moulding compounds and preforming processes.
Nick is a part of the Composites Research Group.
